Formed in 1946 by a group of five businessmen to discuss common problems along the Harvey Canal.
Dedicated to the improvement of the business climate along the Harvey Canal and the energy industry.
Present membership of approximately 600 members representing more than 350 firms ranges from major oil companies to one man service operations, and each has an opportunity to be heard.
Involves its members in a variety of committees ranging from Governmental Affairs, Environmental Affairs, Infrastructure, Human Resources, Membership and Special Events.
Holds monthly membership luncheon meetings to provide networking opportunities, accept reports from standing committees and hear timely presentations from guests speakers discussing pertinent topics.
Also sponsors annual events such as Trade Show, Golf Tournament, Crawfish Boil and Annual Presidents Gala.
Actively communicates with state and federal legislators on such topics as Coastal Zone Management, Tort Reform, Unemployment and Workers Compensation Reform, and Right to Work legislation.
Played key role in successful projects such as construction of elevated West Bank Expressway, improvements to Peters Road, flood control projects along Harvey Canal, hurricane projects, partnering with Jefferson Parish Vocational Technical School, renovation of the Welding School facility in Harvey and development of the Jefferson Parish School System's Trade and Industry Program.
The Jean Schliem Scholarship Program The Harvey Canal Industrial Association is dedicated to improving the quality of education of our youth by providing scholarships to qualified high school seniors. The HCIA will offer three scholarships worth $1,000 each for 2009 – 2010. read more
